Strething to the south from the quiet arc of the Mekong River at Chiang Khan to the vast mountain range of Phu Kradueng National Park, Loei is a diversified beautiful province in the northeast of Thailand. It is a boundary province covering the area of 11,424 square kilometers and about 520 km from the Bangkok.

Loei is an eco-tourism city with undulating mountain ranges surrounding and its summits are covered with fog and abundant flora. Despite being a northeastern province, Loei has many common things with northern region as high hills and mountain range, cool and foggy climate.  It’s the only province in Thailand to have the temperature down to below zero Celcius. It also has unique culture and traditions as the colorful Phi Ta Khon Festival.

Loei used to be a small community established by people from Chiang Saen. The Dan-kwa village was founded by Khun Pha Muang and Dan-sai was founded by Bang Klang Hao. Due to drought and disease, the villagers moved to Loei today. To the year 1907, King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) ungraded the present Loei province.

Thanks to beautiful geography, Loei features a number of spectacular natural scenery, fastinating cultural attractions mixing northern and northeastern cultures and numerous exciting outdoor activities awaiting travel lovers to come and explore this miracle land. Some of popular ones are Phra That Si Song Rak stupa with the Buddha’s relics, Neramit Wipatsana temple, Pho Chai Na Phueng temple, etc. Many natural attractions includes Phu Rua National Park, Phu Luang Wildlife, Phu Pha Lom Forest Park, Pha Ya cave, Mahoran cave, Khing waterfall, Chang Tok waterfall, Kuai Lo rock, etc which offers numerous picturesque landscapes and exciting activities.

The province is home to typical culture and traditions with a wide variety of festivels held throughout the year, including Dok Fai Ban Makham Wan Mueang Loei Red Cross Fair (1-9 February), Thai – Lao Song Kran Festival (12-15 April), Bun Bang Fai Lan Festival (6th lunar month), Phrathat Si Song Rak Fair (early May), etc with various interesting activities and performances.
