Situated in the low alluvial plains of the Chao Phraya River basin, Pathum Thani is one of the central provinces of Thailand with full of canals and orange plantations. With the distance of only 46 kilometers from the capital, the province is a part of the Bangkok metropolis as well as the centre of culture and history of the country. It covers an area of 1,565 square kilometers and consists of seven districts including Lat Lum Kaeo, Muang, Sam Khok, Nong Sua, Thanyaburi, Lam Luk Ka and Khlong Luang.
Pathum Thani province has its original name “Mueang Sam Khok” which was established during the Ayutthaya era. It was the inhabitance for the Mon people moving from Mohtama in Myanmar more than 350 years ago. In 1815, when King Rama II paid a royal visit to the city, the inhabitants offered him a lot of Lotus flowers, which led the king to rename the city to the present name.
