Ubon Ratchathani

The capital, Ubon Ratchathani, also known as “Big 4 of Isan”, is one of the four main cities of Isan. Its name means “Royal Lotus City” for its hosting a pond with a lotus flower and a round frame. The city was established by descendant of Phra Wo and Phra Ta, Thao Kham Phong in the late 18^th century. He was the first ruler dominating Ubon Ratchathani. In 1792 Ubon became a province as well as the centre of administration of Isan.

Ubon Ratchathani is a gateway to Laos and known for forested monasteries. It has been blessed with numerous natural wonders as well as beautiful cutural and historical sites. It doesn’t own the pristine sandy beaches or high forested mountains but it has its own geographical identity. The selection of natural attractions consists of caves, rivers, natural rock formations, cliffs and waterfalls, which all are the perfect places for those who love adventure.
