Som Tam is one of the best-known dishes among Thai people for its hardly sour and spicy flavors. It has its name which truly means "Sour Pounded", is a tasty salad processed from scrapped unripe papaya mixed with fresh vegetables such as tomato, raw Thai eggplant and yardlong beans.

It has its origin traced back from the Northeast of Thailand and now has reached to all parts of the country. Each region has different ingredients leading to various scales of sweet and sour in each restaurant.

Som Tam is the dish blended between salad vegetables and spicy dressing which are pounded in the motar. It is the combination of five local tastes: hot chili, sour lime, savory fish sauce, salty and sweetness from palm sugar. Som Tam is often served with sticky rice and grilled chicken. It may also be enjoyed with rice noodles, or just as a snack by itself. To be more tasty, Som Tam should be accompanied by raw fresh vegetables to richen the spiciness of the cuisine.

This dish is very good for your health because it owns no fat, high vitamins and low calorie. This is a definitely authentic Thai cuisine that will make a huge impression at the fist chew thanks to strong spiciness.
